The Reference Room

Here you will find links to a growing number of reference sources for students, teachers, and writers. Please contribute to this list by suggesting sources of your own through the site suggestion box.

For General Reference

The Librarian's Index to the Internet
A excellent portal to sites approved by research librarians throughout the United States.

Bartleby.com Great Books Online
Free access to literature, reference, and verse online. Designed for students, researchers, and the intellectually curious.

e-books@Adelaide
Excellent source of free web-based e-books courtesy of The University of Adelaide Australia, nicely formatted for both print and online reading. The collection includes more than 700 classic works of Literature, Philosophy, Science, and History.

American Rhetoric: The Power of Oratory in the United States
An incredibly valuable resource of text and audio indexing some of the greatest speeches in American history. The site also houses a wealth of educational resources on rhetoric and oratory. It's fun to research or just to explore.

For Student Reference

Making Group Work Work
A wonderful resource from the Writing Center at Colorado State University for students (or anyone really) having to do serious group work in their classes. This site offers a bunch of strategies and tips for being successful when working collaboratively.

The University of North Carolina Writing Center
An excellent writing center site with handouts and links for both students and faculty. One of the best online writing centers I've seen.

Featured Content
Sunday, July 08, 2007 New Video Library Online
Check out the new video library. You will find a collection of tutorial videos on writing-related topics, as well as some tutorials on online learning. The files are in flash video format (.flv) and are, on average, ten minutes long. They make an excellent resource for self-study or as a supplement for a teacher to use in the classroom setting. The collection is growing, so check back often.
